Machine Label artist Metapattern, now based in Berlin, will be making an exclusive appearance in Melbourne after a many year absence.

Joining him is local superstar Fergus Sweetland of Bomphcast and Hayes Collective, who is making his first appearance for both crews.

Providing additional support is Southern Lights boss Daniel Filipovic, bringing with him his signature deep and hypnotic sounds. Rounding out the guests will be Olivias, a vinyl only DJ duo that will be supplying an eclectic Electro focused experience to the upstairs room on the night.

Alongside all these amazing invitees will of course be Machine and Technoir chiefs Andrew Till and Ranjit Nijjer, together with double agent Simon Slieker, an integral part of both brands.

Live visuals will be provided by the super talented VDMO and the sound will be delivered by one of this city’s premier Funktion One sound systems.

Machine celebrates 13 years of exploration through techno music x art

Starting back in 2009 Machine is the longest running night at My Aeon, it has also has proven to be somewhat of a signal beacon for the emergence of a mature and considered revision of techno music, art and culture. Significantly, Machine is populated by a mix of age groups: representative of youth and maturity, enjoying an environment together, each bringing something to the table. No-where is this more apparent than in the artist roster, which boasts a swathe of established older artists, pulled by the lure of an event that is multi faceted, intelligent and offers the promise of something many artists yearned for in the techno field: recognition of artistic expression. Further to this cause is the attraction of a band of artists, new to the fold, rallied by the sophisticated approach to sound which is at odds with typical commercial interests. The young welcome this apparently vibrant and expressive scene that clearly holds the interest of older heads than their own, that promises something more than a passing fad-like appeal. Machine enters 2020 bringing you one of the defining acts in the Japanese techno scene, Ryogo Yamamori ( Non Series, Modularz, Ovum Recordings, 951beat, Machine Label)

Tokyo based Ryogo Yamamori started out in the late 90's when he became resident at Air, Module making his name as a dj. Later as a producer, he has released tracks on Josh Wink's label Ovum, "Trinity e.p ”, which blew up worldwide and carved out his name and with his unique style, then on his own 951beat label and more recently his digital/vinyl imprint Kageru. His collaborations have extended as far as Detroit Movement's official compilation, Torque, Voight, WARØK, Human Lessons, and with recent releases on Modularz, Non Series & our own Machine Label. Ryogo’s skill as a DJ is bears hallmarks of the influential 90's Detroit & Chicago techno scene where he found his early inspiration. His style: an acclaimed, technical example of 3 deck mixing. With over 20 years of experience spanning the world’s clubs and festivals, including places like Octagon, ageHa, Womb, Origami, Dommune, he’s now bringing it back to Melbourne for a repeat show after an expectional set at Machines 9th Birthday back in May 2018.

M A C H I N E 1 0 - We’re incredibly awed at reaching this milestone. 10 years of billowing bass lines, rolling through My Aeon. Whilst we’ve endeavoured to keep the fire burning, it’s you the techno public of Melbourne and beyond who have continued to give us your support. Together, we ride a wild wave representing a style, a sound and a value set that create a paradigm of musical energy.

There’s a risk in achieving tenure that the milestone becomes a millstone; a constraint around which we keep rehashing the same ideas, which steadily become tropes. In making choices about Gender Equality, gender politics and freedom from harassment, liberation from discrimination, in affirming a strong stance on inclusion and diversity and in speaking about behaviour on the dance floor and with phones and cameras - in setting up intentions about these things, in inviting our community to engage in these things and in throwing it all out there we feel we’ve ripped the millstone from our collective neck.

This 10th Birthday is a celebration of what we as a community stand for. A celebration of the diversity and togetherness that forms the backbone of a music culture which spans decades. This is the canvas upon which our tenth birthday is laid: Safe and respectful dance floors and a diverse crowd, freely expressed. Colour and energy and vibrance throughout the venue.

MACHINE welcomes back Dasha Rush (FullPanda/Raster Noton). She is joined by Metapattern [live] Machine Label in his send off show before he takes up numerous music work opportunities in Berlin. We present in their first appearance at Machine: Lara Kills [live] and Mha iri. Machine residents Andrew Till and Simon Slieker are on offer. And our rather large news is the addition to our regular roster of Emmymaie as a Machine resident. Also featuring VDMO with his constructivist geometric prismatic morphing visuals projected onto the walls in the main room.

DASHA RUSH Yes, that’s correct, we have Dasha Rush! Russian born, Berlin based, Raster Norton & Sonic Groove housed, FullPanda owning Dasha Rush. We have had the pleasure of Dasha’s company back in 2016, arguably our best night ever. It’s the one people continue to talk about, the night the heavens opened, the club flooded, the dance floor was underwater and we were stretched to capacity with a heaving and sweat soaked mass of humanity.

Since that moment Dasha has gone on to enjoy a massively successful and unrelenting tour schedule. She bounces from festival to club across Europe and beyond delivering her bold and uncompromising take on techno and still finds time to engage in multiple cross discipline projects; luscious forays into 4D sound compositions, showcases and installations that merge the moving image with dimensional shows and immersive aural fixtures.

Dasha’s Sleepstep album released on Raster Noton, one of the great bastions of style and taste is a work of art and beauty. A wonderful insight into the breadth and range of her thinking and feeling. A complete diversion from up front techno sensibilities and yet permeated with the urgency, emotion and drive that make it equally as compelling. Another facet in the artistic range of an artist who lives and breathes cultural forms and exploration through an utter alignment between work, lifestyle and expression. Dasha Rush will be playing in the main room at Machine in the drop zone of the night.

Ken Ishii debuted on the legendary Belgian techno label R&S Records in 1993. Since then he has gone on to incredible feats of worldwide recognition and accomplishment across multiple mediums and media encompassing film, video, gaming, theatre design, multiple awards for magazines including best techno dj for NME and Mixmag, designing sound systems and even producing music for the Winter Olympics at Nagano. His list of accomplishments is exhaustive and, frankly exhausting to read, so we’ve chopped it. The important thing is his rich and enduring influence on electronic music and his place in the interplanetary techno-sphere of everlasting achievements. You’d have to be living under a rock to have avoided the name Ken Ishi and we’re incredibly honoured to be hosting him at this Machine team up with Translate.

We’re nine years old. We, us, everyone who has danced the sweat of a generation into our dance floors; everyone who has contributed to putting this event on the table and to making it a feast; the dj’s and dancers, the artists and connoisseurs, the talkers and the walkers and the restless denizens of nighttime Melbourne. All of that combined and continuous dynamic energy poured and pulsing through Machine is what has made Machine. And all of that is what we celebrate on this occasion of our 9th Birthday.

We feel we have assembled a line up fitting for such an occasion. Ranging and tugging at the fabric of what techno is and isn’t and continuing to ask the question: what is it that sweeps us up into the mesmerising magic of the mix. To that end we have 3 very special headline guests that utterly represent this phenomenon: DJ’s known for this particular trait and whose careers have been defined by it. : Ryogo Yanamori from Japan, Anthony Pappa and Phil K. Then we have the new wave, dj’s and producers who also fly this flag and who are bursting through the threshold of public awareness: Juan Tellez and Metapattern. And then then there are Andrew Till and Simon Slieker, also known for their intensity and longevity in the mix.

Together this line up will offer something unique and quintessential about what we strive to create at Machine: artful, genre bending and completely enticing music in an electric and fundamentally welcoming environment. Metapattern (Machine Label) Bris Playing his first show for us at Machine, we’re so excited to have this guy play live for us. Hot off the January 2018 release of his debut EP on Machine Label: Unification Algorithm [MACH038] we’re fast tracking him down from Brisbane. His sound cuts a swathe through genres but fairly and squarely resides in the techno aesthetic. It’s not lost on us that Metapattern has spent a decade lecturing in sound design and live performance, as this is evident in the composition and approach to his music making and performance. Welcome to Machine!

Juan Tellez (Machine Label) A relative veteran at Machine Label now with 3 EP’s to his name, Juan has likewise earned a reputation for his precise, flowing and pulsating sound as a dj. He beautifully combines his talent as a producer, his understanding of the vagaries of sound into his dj sets, which are unflinchingly driving and yet rich with dynamics and flowing baselines. It’s been too long between drinks and we’re excited to have him back in the main at Machine.

Andrew Till Machine resident and founder, an active member of Melbourne's underground electronic community since the late 80's as a Dj, label manager & producer, Andrew Till is known for being an innovator: a stylist whose sets are part conjuring act, part act of persuasion: a composite of timing and compositional balance. He mesmerizes with beautifully realized structure and broadens horizons with his call to war: the tension of being swept up in the familiar, and dropped into the unknown.

Simon Slieker Machine resident and partner. A figure synonymous with techno-electronica culture since the 90’s, Simon Slieker has is widely respected as playing an integral role within it. Over 24 years he has developed a reputation for output that pushes boundaries and exists at the fringes of bellowing bass lines, brooding melodies and tribal drums.

VDMO: brings an incredible live projection array to three walls of the main dance floor transforming the space into a a chamber of dimensionality and depth. Programmed live geometric patterns twisting and riffing off the Machine design aesthetic. VDMO brings the visual aspect of the evening to dizzying heights

UPSTAIRS

Anthony Pappa Is legend in this city, for pioneering dj’ing as a career. He burst onto the dj circuit as a 15 year old 30 years ago, winning the coveted DMC mixing championship and doing everything there was to do as a dj in Australia. He then became the first to entertain the prospect of a European move and blew the shit out of London. He made a huge name and reputation for himself as a classic layered and key mixing dj and then as a chart smashing producers. He is spoken about in the same vain as Sasha and Digweed and indeed played the same circuit. There is really no-where to begin and it’s very difficult to find a fitting place to end in describing Anthony Pappa. Read his bio, that’ll help. It’s hard to know what to make of media plaudits but as far as they go this is as good as it gets: voted 75th all time best DJ in the world by Dash Berlin World.

Alongside DJing & continuing to build a reputation for his mixing skills, set programming and the ability to adapt to the environment, production was & iis key to Anthony’s success. His use of musical knowledge, chord structures and melodic phrasing and key mixing is evident in every track he seamlessly blends / mixes together.

Key tracks produced include: his massive collaboration with King Unique called “Vamoosh” released on Bedrock and long time classic Freefall “Skydive” on Stress Records which was UK/European number 1 hit single in the charts. With numerous club anthem singles, remixes plus 6 mix compilations (2 at 200,000 + in sales) he has been released on labels including Sony/BMG, Platipus Records, System Recordings, EQ (Grey), Darkbeat Recordings ‘Darkbeat 10th Anniversary Collection’ and most notably on Boxed Global Underground Nubreed series. Mixed compilations for Renaissance and was the first DJ to be selected for the Global Underground Nu Breed series which saw him, play over 70 cities around the world and amass sales of over 50,000 copies of the release. Anthony has also done mixes for the cover mount CD for DJ Mag’s coveted Top 100 DJ’s edition receiving high praise from all the big hitters and industry professionals alike.

Phil K From the same class and vintage as Pappa, and long time friend, Phil’s legend is perhaps more familiar to us in Melbourne as this is where he has plied most of his trade over decades of fervent dance delivery. But really, again where do we begin in describing Phil K? In 2002 after having a few remixes, singles and tours under his belt he released Balance 004 which was critically acclaimed and was voted in the top 10 compilations of that year by UKs DJ Mag. His world went totally haywire after that moment, going on to take out various awards including Australias Best DJ and an award for a Lifetime Contribution to Australian Dance Music amongst a swag of others. After this he embarked upon a never-ending world tour playing everywhere one could want to play: Glastonbury Festival, SONAR, Fabric, Womb, MOS and a countless haze of others. In between the touring Phil found time to keep recording as various artist names, but it was as Lostep with Luke Chable that they created another seminal record called "Burma" which was included on Sasha's "Involver"LP. "Burma" led to a recording contract with Global Underground and the LP "Because We Can" was released in 2005.

Another thing that Phil has been incredibly passionate about is in the area of DJ technology. Phil's now legendary relationship with Pioneer Electronics began with a trip to Tokyo showing their engineers the things they thought their equipment couldn't do as well as redesigning the EFX500 to become the EFX1000. Phil has had input into most of the machines that most DJs use everyday and his skills on these products along with James Zabiela (who was one of Phil's early "students" in the use of effects) is famous worldwide. He has been called a "lost jedi" by Tom Middleton and taken the likes of Meat Katie, Anthony Pappa, Chad Jackson, Dave Seaman, Adam Freeland, Todd Terry and a long list of other students and notables through the finer points of key mixing and digital effects mixing. Today you will find him incorporating all manner of musical instruments into his DJ sets including drum machines, samplers and a range of synthesisers, the reason he is regarded as the DJs DJ. He is also a full time sale consultant at Australia’s Store DJ and still working closely with Pioneer on new projects , firmware, and products.

Saturday March 17 marks an important date on the calendar for us at MACHINE with our first international artist of the year. We welcome Frankfurt based electronic pioneer Alex Bau

ALEX BAU (CREDO / Cocoon) is the quintessential techno artist. His tenure in the industry flows across decades. His involvement runs across multiple labels, the influence of which is enduring. He is the complete package: a self confessed child of the 80’s New Romantic and early electronic boom whose interest lead him to the nascent party scene of Germany, to a path of dj’ing. Cutting his teeth at temples of electronica like Liberia where he met Sven Vath and Chris Liebing who were doing the same. A DJ career spanning decades which then evolved into the adjacent paths of promoting parties like the iconic Silo events in the German country side, which evolved into a massive production career in which he has released on an incredible array of labels including CLR and Cocoon. This eventually lead to the establishment of his own Credo imprint which has now been in operation since 2007. Alex doesn’t hunt publicity and has beautifully kept his humanity. Very much in the school of thought underpinning the unwritten ethos of techno: that we do it for the love, we instil our soul and we sidestep the bandwagon. We’re so happy to have him for Machine in what is a solo Australian show. Yes a massive waste given the kilometres traversed, but a special privilege for us and all who support us. More than back line players these two have been headlining rosters for the best part of the last 20 years. Upstairs is a treat, a long awaited delight for those who partied through the 2000’s and what should be an eagerly anticipated showcase for the uninitiated. We bring you three iconic DJ’s who harness the best of the funky acid, electro tech, fat arsed beat movement that you definitely don’t get to hear enough. Enter Pixelton, Miyagi and Heath Myers.

Toni PIXELTON: Hit the ground dancing in the 90’s, making a name for herself in the underground warehouse movement of Melbourne. She made an immediate impact with a ribald funk tempered with massive baselines and 4x4 kicks that laid waste to dance floors. She was the go to dj for a stylish, punk-tech sensibility that spoke to a generation of politically savvy and commercially exhausted punters. Fresh and loud. At her height Pixie as she is affectionately known was resident at the same Melbourne techno institution that Simon Slieker made his name in Teriyaki Anarki Saki. There she won over a new swathe of techno banner fans who are still waving that flag to this day. Welcome back Pixelton!

Miyagi: Another product of the electro boom in late 90’s and 2000’s, Miyagi burst onto the party circuit via the warehouse craze. I still remember emphatic enthusiasts declaring “you’ve got to hear this kid Miyagi, his sets are so unbelievably funky; he’s got it.” And he did and he does. Miyagi is a classic party player, he seizes on the moment and knows when to launch, blending breakbeasts with disco cuts with techno monsters, imagine the spiralling onlsaught of funked up mayhem. That is a Miyagi mainstay and we can’t wait to be swept up in it.

Heath Myers: beat merchant and prog master. Rising from nowhere in the 90’s with a fabled institution called KINETIK. Heath made a name for himself and then some. Busting out in the smooth as silk progressive beat scene that was a thing; bold breaks and rolling extended mixes saw him landing at the institution of SUNNY and later joining up with Miyagi and Simon Slieker and with d-JCB and Max Grill formed up the infamous Semi-Retired DJ’s, who confusingly played an exhausting cycle of shows across Melbourne which in a triumphant apex erupted on the Market Stage at Rainbow Serpent where they hosted the Luau in it’s Sunday Funday hey day. The Luau became an institution which only stopped a couple of years ago but its legacy lives on with the spectacular kaleidoscopic costumery that Rainbow Sundays have become known for. M A C H I N E System reset. And we’re back. After a 2 month layoff Machine returns on Saturday February 17 with our first party of 2018. 1 of 11 scheduled for the year, in our shiny new time-slot of the 3rd Saturday of the month. Bank it.

We’re thrilled to welcome back Mike Callander; who some of you may recall was a founding resident DJ at Machine all the way back in the beginning, 8 years hence. He joins standing residents Andrew Till and Simon Slieker in the main room; with the thrilling addition of Bunker’s Adrian Bell guaranteeing a tour de force of the many facets of the techno-sphere.

We’re rapt to announce publicly the addition of our first resident Live Visual Artist: VDMO. Anyone who has witnessed his room transforming work through the latter part of 2017 would have experienced his staggering spectacle. Projecting onto 3 walls with oscillating geometric vistas that create a dimensionality to the space that is tantalising, captivating and inviting. We’re delighted to make him a mainstay.

Upstairs we have an equally tantalising combination; the Hyp-nøsïs crew have assembled a talented team offering a vast array of sound ranging from ambient electronica through to dark noise based sound. Featuring Juxtpose / JXTPS, Malware and duo @Cleyre.

The Artists:

Mike Callander is one of those artists who somehow manages to channel excellence into the dual realms of DJ’ing and production. What we love about Mike is his ability to cast a line out to the dancefloor that establishes connection and relationship. He has rediscovered the lost art of weaving the threads of cadence, tempo and intensity; there are peaks and troughs, there is escalation tempered with respite; these features drive the experience and loom larger than genre or definition. When Mike plays you can’t help but feel a part of it, a part of something mesmerising and intelligent. The truth is undeniable: dancing to Mike Callander makes you smarter.

Adrian Bell is an international man of mystery. Somehow ageless, somehow timeless. Although we’re pretty sure he’s quite young. Compared to us. He is a wellspring of understated talent. He consistently pulls out ripping sets that evoke head shaking and nodding, the former in bewilderment, the latter in approval. He has taken Bunker to great heights with his talent, his team and his nouse. The truth is we’ve been trying to book him for months. And this month we got him. Now we’ll let him get you.

Cleyre is a collaborative project between Nat Salih and Brett McDonald, borne out of their shared and divergent histories and experiences in various musical contexts. A mutual appreciation for richly articulated soundscapes, polyrhythms and long-form sets sees them drawing influence from pioneering techno scenes in Germany, Italy, Japan and Sweden.

Malware is a long time lover of electronic music, and a common fixture of many dance floors and lighting booths in Melbourne. In 2016 he moved to the other side of the decks as a key part of the Hyp-nøsïs events, showcasing deep techno and experimental music in little used spaces around town. With a passion for any music thats ‘real’, including jazz, abstract, broken beats, noise and more, his sets are influenced by the different sounds from a broad array of genres. https://www.facebook.com/malware444/

JXTPS is a live Techno and DJ act hailing from Melbourne Australia. Formerly known as Juxtpose the name change was to highlight a shift in sound. JXTPS enjoys a variety of moods as it suits him - from dark and heavy to ambient and surprising.

He has released with labels Labrynth, Planet Rhythm, Circular Limited, Fanzine and most recently on Suara. 2018 will also see his first tape release on French deep techno and ambient label Lett Records. As a live act he has performed at the now defunct Pleasure Planet parties and twice at Strawberry Fields Festival, as well as supporting Giorgio Gigli for Bunker. In mid 2016 JXTPS and DJ Malware have been regularly putting on experimental, ambient and left field parties as Hyp-nosis and User Mood. This month they’re bringing it to Machine.

VDMO, has brought an incredible live projection array to three walls of the main dance floor transforming the space into a a chamber of dimensionality and depth. Programmed live geometric patterns twisting and riffing off the Machine design aesthetic. VDMO brings the visual aspect of the evening to dizzying heights.

Machine is a techno club with the vibe of an arts precinct. Run by electronic music veterans Andrew Till and Simon Slieker, the club attracts quality artists from around the country and the world. Spread over two levels each with topflight Function One sound systems and an enormous open garden area, there is always differentiation between cold and hot, hard and soft, dark and light, dry and wet, distinct and indistinct; Machine exists in this duality and celebrates the diversity it affords: old and young, queer and not, gendered and not. The primal scream as we come slamming up against the bulkhead of 2018. What a year it’s been; another series of momentous events, playing host to some huge names of the international circuit, and also to a raft of superlative home grown talent.

The year has featured:

12 parties across the 12 months 7 international artists: Adriana Lopez, steve bicknelll, Developer, Truncate, drumcelll and THE BLACK MOY Millions of local artists, well thousands, okay hundreds.

The implementation of the FREEDOM from HARRASSMENT community involvement initiative and policy: basically stopping club based sexual harassment in its tracks. Admittedly we still have the odd moment when something occurs which we jump on immediately. But overall the establishment of this initiative has made an enormous difference to the freedom of everyone at our events to dance unobstructed from obtrusive objectification and harassment. Yep we’ve been busy and have not intention of the schedule abating. 2018 is shaping to be another leap for us. And the first item of business is a date shift. We are officially moving from our regular position of the 4th Saturday to the third Saturday of the month each month. Lock it in. We feel this will be much easier to track and we’re sticking to it. We’re ware we’ve jumped around a little this year due to accomodating other events on the calendar, but one of our resolutions of 2018 is to settle into this new calendar position.

And here we are at the final moment of the year and what better way to celebrate than to boil the broth down to the essence of Machine. That means Andrew Till, Simon Slieker and Lateral in full force in the main room, joined by our antipodean Machine Labell artists MOT3K flying in from Perth and back to rock the house down.

Machine Label Origin: Melbourne Founded: 2010

Story: Founded in 2010 by Andrew Till and later joined by Simon Slieker and Matthew Drape the label has on display a cross section of Australia’s production talent, young and old, emergent and re-emergent, coupled with sounds from Europe and beyond. Machine Label is backed by the club of the same name which has proven to be somewhat of a signal beacon for a mature and considered revision of techno music, art and culture. Together Machine Label and Machine Club are bringing the world to Australia, and in so doing, taking Australia to the world.

Latest release: Filter EP, Juan Tellez: This new 4 track session is the third Juan Tellez release on Melbourne’s Machine Label. Atrophic Society Origin: Melbourne Founded: 2014

Story: Started as an outlet for personal techno experimentation, Atrophic Society is the musical brainchild of Craig McWhinney. As both label Director and A&R, Craig has enjoyed the success of his own tracks (under his alias Vohkinne), as well as fathering releases and remixes by Ben Sims, Brendon Moeller, Tripeo, Patrik Skoog, Material Object, DJ Spider, Ground Loop, Gotshell, Jeff Derringer, Xhin, and most recently, Savas Pascalidis

Latest release: Brain Waves EP, Savas Pascalidis: Savas Pascalidis is an artist who needs little in the way of introduction. Having a career that spans the last 25 years, and releases on a staggering number of great labels (Gigolo Records, Kurbel, Non Series, Mote Evolver, Stockholm LTD, Children of Tommorow, Skudge, Figure and many more), we’re proud to welcome Savas to the Atrophic Society family. Brain Waves sees further exploration of the techno that defines Savas’ sound. Savage, grooving and dripping in nuance, all four cuts on this EP will set the night on fire.

Story: Primary [Colours] is simply a collection of inspired entities, in the pursuit of all things unrealised. Everything around us is in a constant state of transformation and entropy - moving from one state to another, primary's focus is on that transition.Primary continues to build up its roster of artists through personal connection in which we share like minded concepts and creation. The Primary Colours concept is planned to be a series of 12” coloured vinyls in blue, red and yellow. The Primary concept is not a cyclical loop. Blending these elements you take view of secondary colours, further iterations you view tertiary colours. This concept allows a rich tapestry of dance floor immersions.

Latest release: Mad Roy, 10 inch vinyl EP, Echo Inspectors & Silver Ash: Mad Roy< found its way from Brisbane to Melbourne to the Victorian Coast before finally finishing its journey on this limited edition 10 inch wax. Modulating synths. polyrhythmic percussion. tape delays and one massive bassline all work in tandem to create a tune full of building grooves and sneaky surprises. Southern Lights Origin: Melbourne Founded: 2015

Story: Southern Lights is a local label with international appeal, showcasing limited vinyl releases that explore modern, hypnotic techno and electronic sounds from both local and international artists. Founded by Daniel Filipovic and curated together with Carlos Nascimento (DJ Matic), Southern Lights includes artists such as Craig McWhinney, Ground Loop and DRYAD. Daniel and Matic will perform extended DJ sets on the night showcasing a broad spectrum of tomorrow's music, today.

Latest release: Elementi Compatibili EP, Modern Heads: Our fourth release is a journey into magnetic realms and cosmic orbits from Modern Heads with the ‘Elementi Comptabili’ EP. Modern Heads is the production brainchild of Dino Sabatini and Gianluca Meloni, who together have pioneered their version of timeless techno, always capturing their vision of the future in the present. Elementi Compatibili comprises of four elements. Elemento A and C are both beautifully crafted ambient excursions, both softly navigating their way along celestial paths.

Actually our production line is more of a bespoke artisan affair so don’t get the wrong idea. Because we’re booked to the hilt with quality Melbourne performers. Machine: IF? that then this

In the depths of the Melbourne winter we’re dragging down a little bit of Sydney sunshine with the anticipated return of Sebastian Bayne. Head of IF? Records and frequent touring artist to Europe, Sebastian has been somewhat of a regular at Machine over previous years. Meticulous in his dj’ing approach, Bayne throws down enormous sets that come at you like waves on a beach break. Rise, peak, descend, rinse and repeat. Bring it on.

It’s time also for the equally anticipated return of Kiti and Chiara Kickdrum. Although it’s not quite right to speak of them together as though they are one, for they most certainly are not; each with her own style, repertoire and energy, and yet so often seen supporting one another and playing along side it’s easy to hold them up and celebrate the duo. Okay it stops here though for….

Kiti will be playing by herself and bringing all we know and love her for. How does a dj have so much groove and soul and at the same time lay down such grave and salacious techno. So often we have seen the dancefloor rise as one in response to an enthralling Kiti tryst.

Chiara Kickdrum will be playing solo, and bringing the exceptional talent she has seemingly flowing through her hands. We have no qualms in suggesting that Melbourne has been the greatest beneficiary in the trade that saw Chiara come to us from Italy. Over recent years she has grown into a musical force to be reckoned with… or not, if you are laid waste by her devastating artistry. Whether it’s live composition, performance or dj’ing Chiara Kickdrum is a mood magician, and in no safer hands can we leave you.

Consoles, we welcome to the Machine stage for the first time, and in good time. Hers is a name you will have been seeing over recent months after performances all over Melbourne. An up and comer in techno circles, and a dj with an acute acumen for the sound. Her take is certainly influenced by her musical training, but her attack is something only she could explain. Consoles can tear it apart or leave it whole and it’s this range that we’re sold on.

This is the one we’ve been salivating over for months. A guilty preoccupation given the star quality of the imports joining us over recent months in Adriana Lopez, Steve Bicknell and Developer. But really, in the pantheon of techno producers to get excited about this months guests are in the foreground: enter direct from Los Angeles DRUMCELL (Droid Behavior/Dystopian) & TRUNCATE (50 Weapons/Droid Behavior). On the one bill.

What can be said that hasn’t been said already? Truncate is no stranger to Machine and conversely no mystery to you our crowd. He’s joined us on 2 previous occasions the first when he was just taking the world by storm in 2012. That party tore the roof of My Aeon. Which, legend has it, is why major renovations had to be conducted last year. This is not entirely true, because it was only after TRUNCATES second stint with us at our 5th Birthday that the place was so taken apart that the renovations became entirely necessary. DRUMCELL meanwhile has humbly been going about his business of world domination in defiance of Europe, much the same as TRUNCATE, as both these individuals have done much to give the U.S and California in particular something to be proud of. TRUNCATE'S release profile is prolific and fortunately his gig stature meritoriously warrants similar acclaim. drumcell is a production savant. His compositions are varied and layered, they entrance and entice, they allure and shock. His methods are many and his directions take the less trodden path. Having said that, he makes really strong techno music. He’s released all over the place, with his debut album on CLR and played all around the world. DRUMCELL co-founded DROD RECORDINGS and DROID BEHVAVIOUR, two labels that have done much to cement their place into the fabric of techno on earth in the 21st Century. This acclaim reached our shores a few years ago and DRUMCELL’S first appearance in Australia at the behest of Billion Underground was a ripping NYE event at a canny one off venue. The following day gave way to a daytime My Aeon team up between Billion Underground and Machine. And so it comes to pass that he too returns to the fold. And we are waiting with baited breath and open arms. DRUMCELL is a favourite. The venue is restored, rebuilt and fortified heavily enough to withstand this next double barrelled buffeting.

Emmymaie: coming off a red hot performance at SILO’s Artefakt show last month EmmyMaie has essentially left us no choice but to book her. Going from strength to strength her sets offer up a sophistication in composition that could only come from years of attuned attention to the music and art of dj’ing. Through a robust approach she captivates the dance floor and keeps feet shuffling and gazes floorward through a mesmerising and nuanced through line . The sword of Damocles personified in pint-sized elfin form.

Andrew Till: Founder of Machine and Machine Label, Andrew Till is a pioneering dj of the Australian music scene. One of very few dj’s, possibly the only one, present at the formative moments of electronic party culture in Melbourne who has been working consistently and constantly through to the present moment. Moving through many moments and inflections of the sound, Andrew Till is currently part of the advance guard for the direction of the techno form.

Simon Slieker: The original resident dj of Machine since inception. Later became partner in both Machine and Machine Label at Till’s invitation. Since then Machine has gone strength to strength as Slieker’s input beautifully compliments that of Till’s and together they create great things. Slieker too is a pioneering dj of the Australian scene and has been working solidly and without lapse since he began at Melbourne Underground Developments Every Picture Tell’s A Story parties in 1994.

8 years on and here we stand, strong and proud and dancing our arses off amidst the seething cloud of beats. There’s plenty to be thankful for on our side; incredible support from our Australian family which now truly encompasses the country, with Machine Label artists, Machine Club performers and Machine Club supporters hailing from the length and breadth of this continent. We are blessed with the club environment we call home in My Aeon which has given us free reign on our once a month and offered us the potential to get to where we’re going. Are we there yet? No, there’s plenty in store and plenty coming down the pipe that we’re really excited about, but this month it’s all about reflecting on the particular awesome that lies at our heart. Our Machine artists that have lent us their support, their music and their creative energy to help propel us out of infancy and into our middle childhood.

It was this time a year ago that we re-opened at the newly renovated My Aeon and celebrated our 7th Birthday. We were staggered at the enthusiasm and support, with a jam packed venue and queue down the street and into the parking lot. Techno in Melbourne was alive and well and we were kids in the candy shop. It hasn’t relented, the year that was has been our biggest ever, with stepped up efforts in our artist line-ups and the flexibility of the upstairs room enabling us to showcase local crews and labels:

This month we look inward in celebrating our own. Across the 2 rooms of My Aeon both with premiere Function One rigs and all the lights and lasers. The artists that have helped us get to where we are and between them have offered up the four most recent releases on Machine Label (with the exception of Lateral who can’t be with us due to the Swiss Alps).

COMPOSITE CONE He drifts mercilessly on the seas of consensus reality, shipwrecked and splintered on the shoals of linear reason. He is blessed with an ear that hears beyond rhyme, fazing and ebbing across the tides; playing at shadows in a wide eyed dance with reason.. Such is the way with this wunderkind. Composite Cone bleeds through days in hibernation into the bliss of night where his machines abide him, offering up their algorithms like secrets from the vault of time. De-cypher this and I will give you the code. Crack the code and I give you the sound of the future.

ENCLAVE Emerging from the Aussie rock and metal scene of the 90’s, a recognised guitarist and FOH engineer, Enclave (Paul Derons) revised his focus at the turn of the millennium. In his sights, electronica and in particular: techno. Sweeping in upon this new sound like a bird of prey, the Enclave moniker was born in a swirling attack on production and the drum machines at its source. What was to come was a cybernetic sound: deep, dark, hypnotic; music aimed as much at the head as the dance floor. But in these disparate parts a happy union has been formed. One which will be on full display Upstairs at Machine where ENCLAVE will take the red room on a live production tour de force.

JUAN TELLEZ Machine Label’s resident New Zealander has crossed the Tasman Sea to bring his soaring techno sound to Melbourne and the world. Combining modular sounds and clever production technique into potent dance floor material; his sound captures the imagination and the heart. Dawn is a soaring opus, full of feeling. Open and minimal, deep and complex, infused with contradiction, sending the spirt on a journey at the same time as tugging at the emotional body. ANDREW TILL & SIMON SLIEKER Chief architects of the ethos of Machine and the mechanics busy under the hood. More than back line players these two have been headlining rosters for the best part of the last 25 years. Machine is excited and proud to present for the month of May all the way from LA, one of the signal beacons of world techno, producer of rolling drum laden loopy gems, incredible dj of 3 deck vinyl mayhem and owner/manager of the pristine tech imprint Modularz. Who are we speaking of? None other than DEVELOPER> You may have seen him courtesy of Bunker in April 2015. That show created a stir. Now two years on we expect the name may have penetrated beneath Melbourne’s techno epidermis. This one is going to be red hot.

Developer Hailing from LA’s seminal and nascent techno scene in the early 90’s, Developer cut his teeth in radio, then the distribution side of the industry assisting with top flight labels Axis, Reload and Plus 8, to name a few. Over the course of two decades he helped forge a culture that today is reaching its zenith. Event production, dj’ing and music production were the way forward for Developer, and finally label curation and management. Modularz is fabled on the world techno stage, and Developer, is clearly one of the techno artists at the cutting edge of the blade. Much of his acclaim in the performance arena has been built on strong marathon sets and quick programming skills as well as the ability of playing 50 tracks per hour on 3 turntables with effect processor and sampler. And with this background he now condenses this brute ability into the CDJ domain. And that’s why we’re excited to see and hear him over an extended Machine set over the Function One system.

Digital Primate In support for the night we’re proud to present the world premiere of the new DIGITAL PRIMATE: MNTNS OF SLNCE project. Last year DIGITAL PRIMATE disappeared into the wilds, emerging 6 months later with a bristling new set of compositions. Recorded in Iceland, Sweden and Ireland and inspired by the otherworldly vistas of these unique territories, the album features a robust techno soundscape to match. This performance will be accompanied by a live mixed projected visual scape captured on location. DIGITAL PRIMATE is a long term beacon of Melbourne techno, the founder of Centriphugal (Melbourne club of legend), most recently living in the Netherlands and running the Beatport artist studio. His most recent production outpourings have come with wide acclaim across the industry…….. MNTNS OF SLNCE has garnered the support of Carl Cox to the degree that he’s creating a new Label on which to feature the album. Southern Lights Label Focus Upstairs we bring you a Southern Lights label focus featuring label chief Daniel Filopovic and Matic. Southern Lights is a local label with international appeal, showcasing limited vinyl releases that explore modern, hypnotic techno and electronic sounds from both local and international artists. Founded by Daniel Filipovic and curated together with Carlos Nascimento (DJ Matic), Southern Lights includes artists such as Craig McWhinney, Ground Loop and DRYAD. Daniel and Matic will perform extended DJ sets on the night showcasing a broad spectrum of tomorrow's music, today.

Daniel Filipovic Daniel is an all vinyl architect of sound. Smooth as fondant and clean as a whistle, his mixing is a dreamy blend of melting and gushing. Definitely something to get excited about in the warm and loved up surrounds of the upstairs Function One den of audio inequity.

Matic One of the gifts Melbourne has received in recent times is the arrival of Matic. Arguably the most well travelled import to date, and possibly one of the most accomplished behind the decks. 15 years learning and plying the dj trade across several continents. Stints in pivotal cities Amsterdam and Barcelona and working partnerships with pioneering artists. Matic has worked across this city and with multiple crews, clearly appreciated by many. We’ve been fortunate at Machine to host a swathe of artists from near and far who have brought great gifts to our collective table, but none who have such an enduring and marked place in the world dance music community as Steve Bicknell. We urge you to read his extended biography for the clearest sense of who and what it is that Bicknell brings. Just quietly (and there’s nothing quiet about any of this), his dj output as Steve Bicknell, his events as LOST, his productions as The Evader, Kim Bilir and S.B Project and his own name, his labels Cosmic Records, Clubtracks and ID(entity), are all steeped in the kind of historic rhetoric as to be “the stuff of legend”. Things that have been spoken and written about over the course of the last 25 years. And now, he’s coming to us as we present this very special evening with Steve Bicknell.

G3:D9 After a hiatus that has gone a little long our good friend, Melbourne live-techno legend and Machine Label denizen G3:D9 is gearing up for a live exposition of his virtues. We thought about it and knew he was the perfect compliment to the LOST theme, with a gritty, gripping and uncompromising approach that delivers a ribald and raw drum-laden sound. Known for his nuts and bolts approach with linked machines and no computer in the arsenal, G3:D9 remains true to the way of seeing the soul of the machine and evoking whatever twisted alchemy is required to make it hum. Welcome back.

DAVID MUMMERY He may have been born in a SILO, but he’s out on the town tonight. Partner in SILO productions and one the of finest quality DJ’s you will hear. Mummery delivers tightly woven masterpieces of pre-planning and orchestration. This is the techno of a skilled choreographer of tunes; and guaranteed in the equation is the interest he keeps up in the mind, the shuffling of the feet and vibrations through the body. Another fine soul to contribute to this soulful occasion. Perfect.

Machine on the March. We’ve made much of recent instalments of Machine Club. Big label celebrations, and excursions into all aspects of the Melbourne sound. This one isn’t so easy to define. Not in a label sense, nor a geographic sense. But in standing back and examining the line up, what we’re excited about is the breadth and depth of quality spanning time, place and space.

Join us Saturday the 25th March across two levels at My Aeon, both with purring Funktion One systems, a dual laser array, programmed and operated live by H&S Technologies, and the incredible backyard open air experience when everything else gets a bit much.

We bring you:

CRAIG McWHINNEY Craig McWhinney is a sound savant. Producer, remixer, dj, label founder and manager. Currently making massive waves on the international techno storm front, inspiring a swathe of artists and outlets to add Atrophic Society (his label) and Vohkinne (his alias) to the hot ticket watch list. With remixes and EPs for Electric Deluxe, Southern Lights, Steadfast records, Proiect Squared, Sub Squared, Haul Music, Attemporal, Snejl Black, Theory records, Telrae and our Machine Label, Craig McWhinney is clearly prolific, but far more importantly he is quality. His Atrophic Society imprint has garnered contributions from names such as Brendan Moeller, Echologist, Dj Spider and Material Object. Drawing upon a wealth of DJing experience and a gift for sound design, Craig crosses boundaries with precision and intent, creating dancefloor focussed music with an intelligence that captures mind and body.. His last vinyl release is a storming and refined techno masterclass on Melbourne’s Southern Lights (yes another rocking local imprint, check it out), Versions EP. MOT3K Mot3k barrel in from Perth for their 3rd show at Machine. The previous two have been blistering performances of exhilarating tunes, flawless execution and rampant enthusiasm. Mot3k are enduring pioneers with a prolific release schedule spanning across multiple labels of both varieties: local and abroad. Their sound covers the complete spectrum of Techno from tough and jackin' through to the deep end of the pool. There’s a distinct European edge to their sound, unsurprising given the duo are English and Dutch originally before calling Perth home. A window into the calibre of their sound reveals high profile support from Richie Hawtin, Marco Carola, Sasha and Carl Cox. QUALE Continuing on with the foreign national theme, we bring the long awaited comeback of Melbourne favourite Quale. Of French origin, and enduring legacy born back in the formative moments of the European dance scene, Quale is steeped in a quality that speaks of his vintage. Hints of blackcurrant and aged in Oak from the Belgian border, you can expect a smooth delivery and notes of ecstasy. MAX VEGAS We’ve admired Max at the plethora of gigs he plays across the festival circuit, clubs, bars and the party scene. Max Vegas is a vinyl juggernaut; never having relinquished the medium he went as far as to take on ownership of Alley Tunes which to this moment is the place to plow through crates of vinyl spanning all electronic genres in Melbourne. Max is a seamless constructor of sound and rhythm; his mixing is impeccable and his selections delectable. It’s an absolute treat to have him at Machine and we can’t wait to hear what he dishes up. Oh and did we mention he’s French? Yep, the theme slowly reveals itself.

LATERAL Machine Label representative and producer of growing, glowing concern. Skylark by day, hanging from ropes off tall buildings, and studio denizen by night, Lateral is an exciting prospect. Saturday 25th February MACHINE shifts back into it’s regular slot of 4th Saturday of the month, and does so with huge celebration of Melbourne techno.

We’ve often said it, but we’re very fortunate in this city. We boast a glut of quality promoters, producers and dj’s of the techno form. Which means a bucket load of quality events with an equal bevy of artistry. And more than ever, these disparite teams who in many respects are vying their own slice of attention, actually actively work, get around, support and assist one another. It’s a rare situation and one worthy of noting.

We, MACHINE are one of the teams. And it is our great pleasure on this occasion to throw a party that brings in representatives of several other crews, producers and dj's. So this one is a melting pot of the techno foundry that is Melbourne. It is a salute and a celebration. It is a declaration of unity and a rallying call for all that is to come.

Joining Andrew Till and Simon Slieker of Machine / Machine Label we have:

Adrian Bell of Bunker. The phrase “needs no introduction” is boring beyond belief and to use it here does nothing to qualify this text as worthy of conveying the essence: Adrian Bell has been prolific in his presence, in his work for and with Bunker and his growing profile in Melbourne, through Australia and his recent forays over to Europe. Bunker itself has been a bastion of continual quality events delivered straight up, with their team of quality local acts (ACM, Jake McDonald, D-REX) and a constant stream of headiners from across the ocean.

Dean Benson of Wildwood. Dean has maintained an independent presence throughout his career, and meritoriously, throughout his rise and rise into Melbourne’s techno fame-dom. His sets on the Market Stage at Rainbow the last few years have been something not only to rave to, but to rave about. But Dean is no one trick pony, and has a depth about him and his music that is coming out in other means and forums ie. Yoke. His sets speak of this and without doubt contribute to what makes him so worth losing your marbles to.

Chiara Kickdrum with her recent The Nature of Time EP on Melbourne’s Finn Audio and live sets that have become ubiquitous across our music calendar, classically trained in composition in Italy and dosed with street cred in Melbourne, Chiara Kickdrum is special because she occupies the territory of humming heavy tech and spans a chasm so deep that echoes only faintly return. She offers up textural and luscious landscapes in sound and she does it live and with her own material. The magic of production, right here, right now and all we need do is marvel and gape.

PWD of The Public Works Department is the kind of visionary the techno world of Melbourne has desperately needed. In recent years it has been PWD’s re-imaginings of how events can be produced, run and flavoured that has offered up a diversity of output that spawned events like Pleasure Planet, which single handedly tore Melbourne a new one, and not just with techno but a new diversification of sound. PWD’s dj’ing speaks of this vision or rather, in this pursuit his ideas are made manifest in the language of the dancelfoor.

TFG is the co-founder of @BARBA events, OBLIVION Music Group and One Weekly. His performances have struck a chord with those who appreciate a nuanced inclination toward a Detroit edged sound that is simultaneously dragged into the minimal, industrial Melbourne aesthetic. The result is a fresh sound from a dj that cares about a presence, the audience ear, and a cohesive journey. The stuff of dreamy dancefloor puddles.

There is enough quality and diversity among this lot to fire up a festival. We will pack it in the space of 8 hours.

This party will occupy the two levels of My Aeon equiped with Funktion-One Sound and be a no holds barred, double barrelled salute to the best Melbourne has to offer.

The traditional salubrious shakedown, the pot of gold at the end of Rainbow. As in previous years we bring you the techno heavyweight fresh from their Market Stage appearance at Rainbow. In previous years we’ve had Monoloc, Dasha Rush, Knobs, and this time it’s none other than Adriana Lopez.

Adriana Lopez is the Columbian label head of Spanish imprint Grey Report, regular contributor to Deveolpers Modularz, Oscar Mulero’s Pole Group and Svreca’s Semantica. Line these labels up and a picture begins to form. And it looks like the kind of art most critics would swoon over. She tore Berghain apart earlier in the year. She’s a rock solid European performer and producer of “smoke laced warehouse jams” (Stray Landings), but, and here’s the thing, she’s a dj’s dj. She’s all about the multiple sources and the rolls royce vinyl. She’s a roll up the sleeves, audio mechanic. And she will be commanding the main room at Machine for as long as she likes, with cohort support from Andrew Till and Simon Slieker, in flag flying, represent mode.

Meanwhile upstairs is the counter point retreat of treats. Our good friend, colleague and cohort: Digital Primate on loan from audio projects in Ireland, the Netherlands and Sweden. He will be bringing his jack’n tech style to the place. Hot on the heels of recent successes, but always a favourite in hometown Melbourne.

Bookending Digital Primate we have the old guard team of Mo Ichi and Miyagi bringing their particular flavoursome techy funk fare. Playful, proficient and fired up, upstairs will be transformed into a neo-punk’n disco-tech haven.

Our Pot at the End show has been one of our grand occassions in recent years and we’re damn excited to announce this latest incarnation of the affair. Yes we’ll all be at the end of the tether post festival. But you can guarantee that the venue will be full of that quintessentially untethered vibe as a result.
