Machine is on the March. The 26th March. Whilst our regular home undergoes renovations we’ve decided to use our period of homelessness as an opportunity to explore another side. Southside.
So from Melbourne’s far north we now head to the sweet surrounds of Saint Martins Place, St Kilda. This venue has housed some pivotal parties over its tenure, and now in it’s latest incarnation, offers up a spacious and lavish room replete with plant filled courtyard, lounge, couches, sumptuous bar and, of course, good sized dance floor with a newly installed rig, EQ’d especially for Machine. Ooooh sounds a little bit lush…and it is.
Artist roster for the evening:
ACM: We welcome Bunker resident ACM to the Machine fold. ACM is an incredible live artist. If you have not seen him, you need to. With a vast set up including two racks full of modular synths and gear, he literally coerces these machines into a unified sound source. It's raw and robust and completely LIVE> Must see. This Saturday at Machine!
And then we have...
G3D9: Machine Label artist, stalwart and wielder of machines, the esteemed, the enduring, the humble, the noble and the every so dry, both in wit and effects, Melbourne's own G3D9. Playing live, like, really live. Not a computer in sight, G3D9’s live compositions are the cycling loops of machines operating in real time and in synchrony. It you've not seen G3D9 serve it up, this is a rare treat. Such is the power and the very rawness of his drum rack; and the resounding crush of his frequencies…the gearing of his cogs is all about the driving force behind the dance floor. Seldom is that indefinable quality encapsulated so well in one act, a one man act at that. Behold G3D9, or falling that, hear him. He will be heard.
CHIARA KICKDRUM: Chiara needs no introduction as she has graced the Machine airspace on more than one occasion. As she has dance floors and parties across the city. What we love about Chiara is the sense of the room when she plays is encompassing, she is articulate in her range and she speaks fluently more than one sound. She is able to elevate the mood and create energy on the floor with a swinging, driving, hypnotic tech funk. Spirited, vibrant and uplifting. Chiara Kickdrum’s resonance fills the room like a wicked reverb.
ANDREW TILL & SIMON SLIEKER: Orchestrators and collaborators and flag bearers of MACHINE and MACHINE LABEL
Andrew with his signature of creeping tempest techno, swirling and rising like a weather pattern, and just as inexorable. Simon with a range of jack'n heave ho, heavenly drones, and the locked rhythms of shoe gaze fantasy. Together they bring the effort and energy to showcase, highlight and host this machine night of good techno loving.
We’re rapt to be given the opportunity to present this space to our community, so take this as your cordial invitation to come and serve it up, Machine style, south side.
